Goodbye Microsoft NAV
The rebranded NAV will continue receiving annual updates as an on-premises solution, and together with the current SMB cloud option (Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations Business Edition), will come under the umbrella of Dynamics 365 ‘Tenerife’. The Dynamics product range has gone through several name changes in the last 12 months and, no doubt, there will be more to come.
As a cloud-first (but not cloud-only) company, Microsoft can be expected to devote more energy to its cloud-hosted solutions. However, Marko Perisic, Dynamics 365 R&D general manager, stated at the NAVUG Summit 2017 that for any investments made to the cloud solutions, Microsoft will “mirror those for customers who are on-premises”.
Further along the roadmap, however, it is expected that Microsoft will position Dynamics 365 Tenerife as a business application platform that offers a full range of capabilities through separate modules, backed up by the Common Data Service.
